To me the from rank 2 to the last, all the videos are the same so it makes no difference. Be creative, or at least make something somewhat good on the technical aspect, and then that would be understandable if people complain.
If madara was was 10th i could have understand the drama, but that not the case.

From a judge I'd expect a much mature answer. To me nobody here is "whining", they're just expressing their opinion in a very polite way and I think that even "losers" have the right to say what they think. Plus, I don't think Anicsi or others are saying something out of the world and I want to underline how the girl has said it in a educated way so this reply seems kind of rough. As judge, you should know that this things are ALWAYS going to happen because we can't all have the same way of thinking and I don't think it's wrong to discuss it together.
Furthermore, instead of just got pissed off you guys should reconsider your position a little, because if many people are so disappointed maybe they could have reasons. Or maybe not, but in this kind of situation you should have a more open mind. Well, whatever, it's useless starting dramas but you should weigh your words because of your position, I know that being a judge is a lot of stress, but I don't think reacting this way will calm things down.

I think you're a great editor, but this has to be one of the most degrading things I've ever heard an editor say. You're trampling on everyone's hard work. How can they all be the same if they're using different songs, Anime, stories, effects, editing and feelings?

Thanks for the reply. And I agree these should be the three main points. I just failed to see them executed in the judging, especially the atmosphere and cleanliness. When the 'heart' and main aspect of the Anime doesn't match the song (also the way it is executed) or there are comedy clips used for dramatic scenes, to me it fails its purpose.

Did you ever judge an IC ?
Because that's not quite what you say. Even more when videos are judged by categories. Just check the dance categories, they almost all did various with the sames footage. And except the top, they pretty much did the same thing (or VERY similar if you prefer)
The problem with romance is that pretty much everyone have the same kind of plot and try to convey the same feeling (because it's romance), and since it's IC everyone is using the sames songs. I don't say all your videos are bad or good. But i think it's important to make somehting that will look different from the other vid, because for the judge it will be difficult to rank videos from a single categories where everyone are doing the same type of amvs.
I'm not trying to degrade your works. But at some point you have to understand that the feeling you get when you judge a contest.

And double post to say don't be too much affected by the ranking. What is important is the comments you get from people.

Edit : And I also wanted to say that people who pre-edit are crap who don't understand what is an IC.  

 

i'll +1 kxs comm about the fact it's mostly the comments and chat you have with people about your and the other's works which is the fun of the ic.

The only thing that would change if the results were to others liking are the people complaining. People will always complain as people carry different values and appealing to all of them is impossible. "Those who try to please everyone please nobody". Really you see the same thing in like every IC, just complain to your pals don't bring it to the forums .

Soul's Team IC - an AMV Iron Chief, where a lot of pro and novice editors take part. Since years everyone has been excited to take part again, or to take part for the first time - like me, who got asked to join.
However, i was looking forward to join and to make my amv. I worked pretty hard on it, and i am sure a lot ppl did too, not all, but a lot.

Now we get the results, and as you judges see, i guess 80% of the editors who took part in this IC are very pissed and dissapointed (like me for example).

There are a lot editors who should have ranked A LOT higher than they did, and also editors who ranked higher than they should. We're asking ourselves: Why? Is something going on wrong here? Like a$$-kissing maybe?   
I dont wanna insult editors personally here, but i wanna state some examples.

Dance category:
Overrated 2nd place - Kyoroichi - Feel The Beat:

It's nothing special, what you watch and think "omg this is so good, i wanna do something good like this too" - with other words: You will forget that amv soon. It has almost nothing special in it - not originality, no visual effects, no lipsync, no (for song important) visible flow. Why 2nd place?  - Chris when you read this, please dont feel personally offended.

Underrated
YukikoAMV - Victorious Alice 10th place

Same song like Kyoroichi's vid. Pretty fitting "intro" to the song, the black white, which emphasizes the song. Also nice timing, where the girls turn around. Badass timing with the little "fun things". Where that nichijou girl hits the floor in the beat of the music for instance. Great moment on 0:46 where the girl gets into the screen and lipsyncs "harder". All in all, me as a viewer, i have more fun watching Yukiko's AMV.

ME: Hyperion - OSU!NG - 9th Place

Just to be short on this one: Original idea, something new in the AMV world, a lot of masking in 3 days, figuring out everything how to do in AE in 3 days. Great timing parts, like the "Yeah's" in the song. But i also see SOME neg. points.

However, also the drama/romance category has a lot fails. EllipseIris's AMV should have ranked A LOT higher than it should for instance, but my text gets too long, so i will stop on this point.

To STK: I am asking myself if all of you are that blind in good amv's. Not just you 3 guys, also the whole studio. Srsly, why? I am dissapointed of you guys.

As the judges aren't free this week end (this is why they aren't answering), I'm gonna answer for the STK, we are giving our opinion about videos like you did, so I don't understand why you're so mad about this.
You can't blame judges for their ranking, everyone has different standards for judging and when they'll be here I think they'll explain theirself about it.

Now, about the videos you linked, Kyo's one has a good editing even if he didn't use lot of fx or didn't make a lot of masking. And to compare his vid and yours, this is not because you made tons of masks or fx that your vid will be better, even if you did something original, there are mistakes in your vid in term of editing that Chriss hasn't.
So yes, I'm not a judge but I said my personnal opinion.

With reference to Ellipseiris, I agree with you that she has to me higher in the ranking but I don't understand why everyone is so mad about it and complaining.

ST won't be able to judge, they're too busy playing dota 2

I have to agree with those 2 points. Altho, I do think Chris did really well, mainly becuz i remember telling him, his style was getting redundant and he listened to my advice and tried something new. It was interesting to see him try something hes not used to. Just hope he keeps it up. But I totally expected Yukiko to place higher.
